About Water Sort

Water Sort is a sorting puzzle with a simple rule: you can pour from one tube into another only if the colours on top match, or the target tube is empty. Start with a rack of tubes holding jumbled layers of colour and finish with each tube holding one colour and nothing else.

There's no timer and no score — just the puzzle, and the moment where you realise you've locked yourself out and have to restart. It's the most-played puzzle format of the last few years for the same reason 2048 was: it fits in a minute and it's genuinely satisfying to solve.

1. Click a tube to pick it up, then another to pour into it.
2. You can only pour onto a matching colour, or into an empty tube.
3. All of the top matching layer pours at once.
4. Finish when every tube holds a single colour.

Water Sort tips

• Empty a tube completely as early as you can — a free tube is the only thing that unlocks a stuck rack.
• Never pour a colour onto a tube you'll need to empty later.
• Look for a colour that only appears in two tubes; consolidating it is usually free progress.
• Use undo rather than restarting; most mistakes are one move deep.
