About Pyramid Solitaire
Pyramid Solitaire is played on a pyramid of 28 cards, and the rule is arithmetic rather than sequence: remove pairs of exposed cards that add up to 13. Aces are 1, jacks 11, queens 12, and kings are 13 — which means a king comes off on its own.
The trick is that only uncovered cards are available, so a card you need may be buried under two you can't remove yet. Working out which pair to take first is the real puzzle.
How to play Pyramid Solitaire
- Remove a pair
- Click two exposed cards adding to 13
- Draw
- Click the stock for a new card
- Remove exposed pairs of cards totalling 13.
- Aces are 1, jacks 11, queens 12, kings 13 (removed alone).
- Draw from the stock to get a new card to pair with.
- Clear the whole pyramid to win.
Pyramid Solitaire tips
- Take kings whenever you see them — they cost nothing and unblock cards.
- Prefer the pair that exposes two new cards over the one exposing one.
- Look at what's buried before committing; matching partners can be stuck under each other.
- Save stock draws — they're finite and often decide the game.

What are the card values?
Face value for numbered cards, ace 1, jack 11, queen 12, king 13. Since pairs must total 13, kings are removed on their own.
Why do games become unwinnable?
Because matching cards can end up buried beneath each other. Choosing pairs that expose the most new cards is the main defence against it.
