About Block Blast

Block Blast is a block puzzle with no clock. Three shapes wait below an 8×8 grid; you drag them anywhere they fit, and any row or column you complete disappears. There is no falling, no time pressure and no way to skip a piece — the game ends when none of your three shapes fits anywhere on the board.

That last rule is the whole game. It looks forgiving and turns brutal around the fifty-move mark, when the board has filled with awkward gaps and a 3×3 square arrives with nowhere to go. It became one of the most-downloaded games in the world in 2024 for the same reason 2048 did: it is simple enough to explain in a sentence and hard enough to keep replaying.

The new game button

1. Three shapes appear below the board. Drag each one onto any free space where it fits.
2. Complete a full row or column and it clears, freeing space.
3. When all three shapes are placed, three new ones appear.
4. The game ends when none of the three shapes can be placed anywhere. Score is the total cleared.

Block Blast tips

• Keep the middle open and build against the edges. A hole in the centre kills more shapes than a hole in a corner.
• Always check the biggest shape first — if the 3×3 square doesn't fit, nothing else matters.
• Clear rows and columns together when you can; a single placement that clears both is worth far more.
• Never place a piece just because it fits. Ask where the next big square would go afterwards.
