About Google Snake Game

Search Google for 'snake game' and a green snake appears above the results; this is that game, playable any time without the search. Steer the snake around the board, eat the apple, grow one segment, repeat — and don't run into the wall or yourself. Google added it to Search in 2019 for the Lunar New Year and it has become the most-searched Google game by a wide margin.

The version here keeps what makes Google's snake different from the 1990s phone game: a small board, a snake that moves smoothly rather than in jerks, a settings panel where you can change the board size, speed and how many apples are on screen, and a high score that sticks around.

1. The snake moves continuously. Change its direction with the arrows; it can't reverse straight back on itself.
2. Eat the apple to grow by one segment and score a point. A new apple appears somewhere free.
3. The run ends if the snake's head hits a wall or its own body.
4. Open the settings (the gear icon) to change board size, speed, apple count, and the snake's colour.

Google Snake Game tips

• Trace the edge of the board in a loop and cut inward only to grab the apple — the classic 'perimeter' strategy keeps your body out of your way.
• Never chase an apple that sits directly next to your tail's current path; wait a lap.
• A larger board is easier at the start and far harder at the end. The default size is the best scoring balance.
• Slow speed and a big board is the training mode; small board at high speed is the real game.
