Search Google for 'minesweeper' and a green-and-grey grid appears above the results; this is that game, playable here any time. It is Minesweeper with Google's touches: easy (10×8, 10 mines), medium (18×14, 40) and hard (24×20, 99) boards, a timer, a flag mode toggle for touchscreens, and a grassy look that makes the mines feel less like a spreadsheet.

2. Each number counts the mines in the surrounding eight squares.
3. Flag squares that must be mines; reveal squares that must be safe.
4. Clear every safe square to win. The timer records your time.

Google Minesweeper tips

• Learn the 1-2-1 and 1-1 edge patterns; they solve most boards without guessing.
• Chord by clicking a number whose flags are placed — it reveals its remaining neighbours at once.
• Work from open areas outward; the edges of revealed regions carry the most information.
• When a guess is truly forced, pick the square with the lowest mine probability, usually next to a 1.
