About Casual Chess

Casual Chess is a clean browser chess game with three computer difficulty levels and a choice of board themes. All the standard rules are implemented — castling, en passant, promotion, stalemate — so it's a real game rather than a simplified one.

The easy setting is genuinely beatable by a beginner, which matters: an opponent that only ever crushes you teaches nothing.

How to play Casual Chess

Click a piece, then the target square
Difficulty

Theme
Pick from three board styles
  1. Choose a difficulty and a theme.
  2. White moves first; legal moves are shown when you select a piece.
  3. Castle to safety and promote pawns that reach the far rank.
  4. Checkmate the opposing king to win.

Casual Chess tips

  • Occupy the centre early — it's worth more than a pawn.
  • Develop pieces before attacking; a lone attacking queen loses to development.
  • Castle within the first ten moves.
  • Ask what your opponent's last move threatened before making your own.

Casual Chess — questions

Is the computer beatable?

On easy, yes — comfortably, for a beginner. Moderate punishes loose play and hard requires real attention.

Does it support all the chess rules?

Yes, including castling, en passant capture, pawn promotion and stalemate as a draw.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes — tap a piece then its square. Nothing to install.
