About Friday Night Funkin

Friday Night Funkin' is a rhythm game about winning your girlfriend's father's approval through rap battles. Arrows scroll up the screen and you press the matching direction in time; miss too many and your health bar empties and the week ends.

It began as a game-jam project in 2020, exploded through its art style and soundtrack, and spawned an enormous modding scene — most of the songs people know it for were made by the community rather than the original team. The call-and-response structure, where the opponent sings a phrase and you answer it, is what makes it teachable.

  • The opponent sings a phrase before you do — use their turn to learn the pattern.
  • Play on easy first to learn a song's structure, then step up; the notes are the same shape.
