About Granny

Granny is a stealth horror game with a simple, terrifying premise: you wake up locked in a house, and Granny hears everything. You have five days to find the items that unlock the front door — keys, a padlock code, a hammer, a cutting pliers — while she stalks the corridors, and every dropped object or creaking floorboard brings her running. If she catches you, you lose a day. Lose five and it's over.

DVloper released it on mobile in 2017 and it became a phenomenon; this page runs a browser version with the same house, the same items and the same rules. It works in the browser on a Chromebook, which is how it ended up on so many school laptops despite being one of the scarier games on the site.

  1. Explore the house quietly. Items are hidden in drawers, cupboards and under furniture, and they move each game.
  2. Collect what the front door needs: the master key, the padlock key, the code, and the tools to remove the planks and cut the wires.
  3. Granny patrols and reacts to sound. Hide under beds or in wardrobes when you hear her footsteps.
  4. If she catches you, you wake up on the next day with your items kept. Five catches end the game.
  5. Unlock the door before day five to escape.

Granny tips

  • Drop items on carpet, never on wood — carpet is silent.
  • Throw a vase or a plate in one direction to pull her there, then move the other way.
  • The bear trap on the ground floor can be placed in a doorway to stall her for a few seconds.
  • Learn the safe spots: under the bedroom beds and in the wardrobe by the stairs are the classics.

Granny — questions

How do you escape in Granny?

Collect everything the front door needs — the master key, the padlock key, the four-digit code, the hammer for the planks and the pliers for the wires — and use them on the door before the fifth day ends. Item locations change every game.

Is Granny too scary for kids?

It is a jump-scare game built around dread and being chased; there is a little cartoon violence when she catches you. It suits teens; younger players will likely find it too intense.

Does Granny work on a Chromebook?

Yes. The browser version runs on Chromebooks with nothing to install. Click the game to capture the mouse, and use headphones — hearing her footsteps is how you survive.
