About Fluid Simulation

Fluid Simulation is a real-time physics demonstration: drag anywhere and you push a swirling, colourful fluid that curls and diffuses exactly as a real one would. There's no goal, no score and nothing to achieve.

It's a well-known WebGL demo by Pavel Dobryakov, and it's genuinely beautiful — the kind of thing that used to require specialist software and now runs in a browser tab at sixty frames a second.

How to play Fluid Simulation

Push the fluid
Click and drag anywhere
Settings
The panel for colours, resolution and effects
  1. Drag across the screen to push the fluid.
  2. Colours generate as you move.
  3. Adjust the settings panel for different looks.
  4. There's nothing to win — it's a toy.

Fluid Simulation tips

  • Slow drags produce smoother curls than fast ones.
  • Turn up bloom in the settings for the best-looking result.
  • It's a good frame-rate test for a laptop or Chromebook.
  • Lower the resolution setting if it stutters.

Fluid Simulation — questions

Is Fluid Simulation a game?

No — it's a real-time WebGL physics demo. You push a simulated fluid around and watch it behave; there's no goal or score.

Why is it so smooth?

It runs on the graphics hardware through WebGL, which is what lets a browser tab simulate fluid dynamics at full frame rate.

Does it work on a Chromebook?

Yes, though it's demanding — lower the resolution setting if the frame rate drops.
