About BitLife

BitLife is a life simulator with no graphics to speak of: you are born, and every year you press a button to age up and make choices — study, work, date, gamble, commit crimes, emigrate — while the game rolls the dice on how it goes. It is text, menus and a ribbon of consequences, and it is far more absorbing than that sounds. Candywriter released it on mobile in 2018; this page runs a browser version with the same core loop.

People play it for the stories: the life where you became a famous actor at 22 and went to prison at 40, the one where you lived to 110 as a monk. Each life takes ten to twenty minutes, saves in your browser between sessions, and ends with a summary of what you did with it.

New life

Start a new life from the menu after death

1. You start as a baby with random stats — happiness, health, smarts, looks — and random parents in a random country.
2. Press Age up to advance a year. Events happen: school, friendships, offers, accidents. Choose a response to each.
3. As a teenager and adult, use the tabs to study, apply for jobs, date, buy assets, and pick activities.
4. Your stats rise and fall with your choices. Low health leads to death; the life ends with a summary.
5. Start a new life and try a different path — the game is about variety, not winning.

BitLife tips

• Study hard and go to the library every year as a child; smarts open the best universities and careers.
• Visit the doctor the moment health drops. Ignoring it is how promising lives end at 35.
• Careers with promotions (corporate, medical, legal) out-earn early high-paying jobs over a full life.
• Save before risky choices isn't possible — but you can age up slowly and read every event carefully; most disasters warn you.
