About Doodle Champion Island Games

Doodle Champion Island Games is the biggest game Google ever put in a doodle: an anime-styled RPG for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (held in 2021), made with the animation studio STUDIO4°C. You play Lucky, a ninja cat, exploring an island full of characters from Japanese folklore and competing in seven events — table tennis, skateboarding, archery, rugby, artistic swimming, climbing and marathon — each with its own champion to beat.

There are side quests, hidden trophies and a team system (red, blue, green, yellow) with a shared scoreboard. Google removed it from the homepage after the games; it is playable here in full, and it takes a few hours to finish properly.

  • Climbing is about rhythm, not speed — alternate the keys evenly.
  • Talk to everyone. Most side quests start with a throwaway line from a background character.
  • The archery champion is the easiest first win; the marathon is best left for last.
