About Cubes 2048

Cubes 2048.io takes the merging idea from 2048 and drops it into a live arena. You steer a cube with a number on it around a board scattered with other numbered cubes; run into one with your value and they merge into double, so a 2 becomes a 4, then an 8, then a chain of cubes trailing behind you like a snake.

The .io half is what makes it tense: other players are doing the same thing, and running into a larger player's chain ends your run while running into a smaller one absorbs it. It is a genuinely clever mashup and one of the more popular browser games of the last few years.

1. You control a numbered cube with a trailing chain.
2. Absorb cubes of the same number to merge and double your value.
3. Collect smaller loose cubes to extend your chain.
4. Hit a bigger player's chain and you're out; catch a smaller player and you take theirs.
5. The leaderboard ranks by highest cube value.

Cubes 2048 tips

• Merge constantly — a long chain of small numbers is far weaker than a short chain of big ones.
• Boost drops cubes from your tail. Use it to escape, not to chase.
• Cut across a smaller player's path rather than following them; you can't catch them from behind at the same speed.
• Stay near the edges early. The centre is where the big players fight.
