About Lights Out

Lights Out is a minimalist platformer with one brilliant constraint: the level is completely dark, you can light it up by holding a button, and you cannot move while the light is on. So the game is memorise in the dark, move in the light — except it's the other way round, and that inversion is the whole design.

Hold the light too long and you lose, so every level becomes a series of short glances followed by blind runs. Each world adds a new mechanic — spikes, keys, moving platforms — that has to be handled from memory.

How to play Lights Out

Light up the level
Hold space (or tap the circle button)
Move
Arrow keys — only while the light is off
  1. Hold space to reveal your surroundings — but you can't move while it's held.
  2. Release, then move from memory in the dark.
  3. Avoid traps and reach the goal.
  4. Each world introduces a new mechanic to memorise around.

Lights Out tips

  • Take short glances rather than long ones; holding too long ends the run.
  • Memorise the next two obstacles, not the whole level.
  • Count your steps in the dark — timing is more reliable than instinct.
  • Look again at a junction rather than guessing; a wasted glance is cheaper than a death.

Lights Out — questions

What's the twist in Lights Out?

You can see or move, but never both. Holding the light reveals the level and freezes you in place; moving means doing it blind from memory.

Why does holding the light too long lose the game?

It's the game's pressure valve — without a limit you could just study every level indefinitely, so the light is a resource as much as a tool.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes — tap the circle button to light up, and the on-screen arrows to move.
