About Angry Birds

Angry Birds is the slingshot game that made physics puzzles a mass-market thing. The pigs stole the eggs; the birds fire themselves at the pigs' wooden, glass and stone towers, and each bird has a trick: red does nothing special, blue splits into three, yellow accelerates, black explodes, white drops an egg bomb. Three stars on every level requires using as few birds as possible.

Rovio released it in 2009 and it became the best-selling mobile game of its time; this page runs an HTML5 version with the classic levels and physics. The pull-back-and-release control is as good with a mouse as with a thumb.

1. Drag a bird back on the slingshot, aim by adjusting the pull, and release.
2. Knock down every pig on the level to clear it. Structures fall by physics; hit the supports.
3. Tap in flight to trigger a bird's ability: blue splits, yellow boosts, black detonates, white bombs.
4. Unused birds add to your score; fewer birds means more stars, up to three per level.

Angry Birds tips

• Aim at the base of towers, not the pigs. A collapsing tower does the work.
• Yellow birds through wood, black birds against stone, blue birds against glass.
• Trigger yellow's boost early — it accelerates from the tap, so tapping late wastes the speed.
• Ricochets count: bounce a bird off a wall into a sheltered pig.
